Reduced use of antibiotics in swine farming
Tremendous progress has already been made with the implementation of the EcoAntibio plan and raised awareness of the use of antibiotics among farmers and veterinarians. One area for improvement remains the strengthening of control measures during critical phases in livestock production: birth, weaning, start of fattening stage, the mixing of different batches. We know that pathogen contamination begins very soon after birth and increases during these critical phases. One vital measure is the prevention of contamination starting at birth among piglets born “sterile”. Biocontrol with the use of microorganisms helps to positively influence the piglet’s microbiota from birth in order to enable the animals to develop in better conditions.
